UMW Meetings

Every women who attends Park United Methodist Church is considered a member of United Methodist Women.  We would like to invite you to attend our first meeting for 2018.  Feel free to pick a chair and join our group as we explore how UMW helps to equip young women for leadership roles---not just within the church but in their workplace and communities.  The UMW program year is focused on “Sacred Spaces” and how and where and when we have encounters with God and Neighbors.  This month during our Prayer and Self-Denial program we will learn about some of the mission efforts of UMW.  The offering received will be used to support the mission efforts locally and around the world.  As we continue supporting various missions we will also take some time to make a pledge to commit our time and money throughout the year to be personally involved in the programs of UMW.

Come learn more on Tuesday, February 6 at 7 PM in the Fellowship Hall.

Book Club

YOU ARE INVITED!! The United Methodist Women Book Club is kicking off 2018 with the book

“Americanah” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.  We take turns facilitating the book discussion and

meet in each other’s homes on the 3rd Monday of the month. Currently, there are about 8 of us and

we would love to have you join us. We plan to complete Program One which is a commitment to

read five books this year. The topics vary from month to month so there is something for everyone!

Our first date for the New Year is Monday, March 19th at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Sharon Shaffer.

There is a copy of the book in the church library or you can purchase copies on Amazon (new or

used) or check out at the local library. Talk to Ruth King if you are interested or have questions.

Rummage Sale

Thursday, November 9th 9:00-4:00 and Friday, November 10th  9:00-12:00 (bag day) will be our Fall Rummage/Bake Sale. It’s time once again to put away our summer clothes and clean out our closets! It’s a good time to sort through things and bring any unwanted, gently used clothing, shoes, etc. to our fellowship hall starting Monday, November 6th. We always need children and adult clothing. We also accept linens, household items, holiday decorations, toys, games and books. Please don’t bring over-sized or heavy items because volunteers can’t lift them.  We appreciate any baked goods that people make to be sold at our bake sale during the rummage sale. Please bring baked goods to church Wednesday, November 8th or early Thursday morning November 9th.

Five times each year, United Methodist Women host a Soup Lunch in the Fellowship Hall. Perhaps you have shown up to eat soup OR maybe you already help prepare soup OR you may already get a call asking you to donate a pie, cake, jello salad, tomato juice or potatoes. If you do one or two or ALL of those things, we THANK YOU VERY MUCH! However, we are thinking there may be some folks who would be willing to donate or help that haven’t been asked yet. If this is the case, please call Sandie Van Volkenburg at 725-4862 or Ruth King at 725-4105 and we will be happy to get you “on the list” for whatever way you would like to help. We appreciate your consideration.

UMW Book Club

Do you like to read? Do you enjoy fellowship and dessert? If you answered yes to one or both of these questions, please consider joining our United Methodist Women Book Club!  We meet five times a year on the 3rd Monday of the month at 1:30 p.m.  We take turns facilitating or hosting and always enjoy a lively discussion with one of the books from the United Methodist Reading Program List.  Our group has won the honor the last few years of having the most women reading in their local unit in our Erie-Meadville District!  This is a tremendous accomplishment and shows how serious we are about continuing to focus our attention on current events thereby making us “doers” of  the Word and not just “listeners.”  This year’s readers were: Sally Barbour, Mary Bielak, Cathy Howard, Ruth King, Doris Savidge, Betsy Sceiford, Linda Schroder, Karen Schuyler and Sharon Shaffer.  Speak to any one of us if you have questions or are interested in joining us in 2018.
